Carnival Corporation & plc (Carnival) has released artist renderings of the group's second cruise terminal at the Port of Barcelona, which has been designed to accommodate Carnival's new class of "next-generation" liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered cruise ships.

The passenger cruise terminal, which is set to open in 2018, represents a €30 million ($32.74 million) investment by Carnival.

"Carnival Corporation's deployment of LNG-fuelled ships to the port supports the pioneering Air Quality Improvement Plan proposed by the Port of Barcelona in November 2016 to effectively reduce emissions from port activities," explained the cruise company.

Carnival notes that it now has agreements for the construction of seven fully LNG-powered cruise ships across four of its 10 global cruise brands in coming years.

As Ship & Bunker reported in February, Carnival said it had not yet settled on a fuel supplier for the company's LNG-powered newbuilds that are set to be deployed on the U.S. market.
