Italian Ro-Ro Operator Visemar has placed an order for a new vessel that will be "one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly vessels in its class," according to MAN Diesel & Turbo who will be providing the propulsion package for the newbuilding.

The Ro-Ro, which will be built at the Cantiere Navale Visentini yard, near Venice, will be powered by two 9L32/44CR medium-speed engines, complemented by two Renk RSV 900C gearboxes, and two Alpha CPP propellers.

MAN Diesel & Turbo said the engines fulfill IMO Tier II regulations and will be built at the company's Augsburg works in Germany from where they are scheduled for delivery in August 2013.

The vessel itself is scheduled for delivery in April 2014 and has already been granted a "green passport" and green star certification.

Sokrates Tolgos, MAN Diesel & Turbo's Head of Cruise & Ferry Sales said: "The engines' common-rail fuel injection, with its high flexibility, is central to their meeting Tier II exhaust-gas requirements at the lowest possible fuel-consumption, especially in part load."

"Another important benefit is the engines' unmatched performance in terms of minimum smoke emissions, even with lower-quality fuels like HFO."
