In response to growing demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers, Estonia's Esti Gaas intends to build a LNG terminal or purchase a LNG bunkering ship in the future, Estonian media reports.

"Currently we are transporting LNG with a semitrailer from Pskov, Poland and so on, but this is definitely not enough if there are more ships," said Ants Noot, CEO of Eesti Gaas.

"Therefore we must consider if we should own a small terminal or build a bunkering ship and service ships in different ports with it. There are many possibilities."

Noot explains that, with 500 million cubic metres (cbm) of natural gas currently being consumed in Estonia, a ship that uses approximately 20,000 tonnes of LNG per year - equivalent to 30 million cbm of natural gas - could have a significant impacts on the country's natural gas market.

"This means that just one ship will increase our volumes substantially, but with tens of ships the volume doubles," said Noot.
