Poland: Oil Product Prices Stabilise After Recent Election
Depressed refined product prices in Poland have started to rise following its general election last week.
In the pre-election period, some commentators suggested that wholesale oill product prices were being kept intentionally low by state oil firm Orlen given that the dynamic global energy market would have pushed prices up not down.
Petrol prices, for example, were low enough for foreign drivers to cross the border to fill up their tanks, according to local news website Notes from Poland.
The skewered market for oil products put independent suppliers of marine gasoil in the shipping segment at a disadvantage.
"The price of marine gasoil in Poland is stabilising," an independent supplier told Ship & Bunker.
The source added that the below market pricing for oil products had been challenging. Other suppliers to the Polish market had added to the pricing imbalance by importing product from international markets at much higher prices which in turn had increased the pressure on market fundamentals.
Marine gasoil values are still low but are beginning to climb, the source said.
