Two More Secondhand Eco-Tankers for Ardmore
Ardmore Shipping Corp. [NYSE:ACS] (Ardmore) says it has acquired two secondhand MR product tankers that it will retrofit for improved fuel efficiency.
The two 47,500 deadweight tonne (dwt) tankers, built at Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. in Japan in 2008, cost Ardmore $23 million each.
The ships will be delivered to the company between July and October 2014 and employed either in the spot market or on time charters.
CEO Anthony Gurnee said the price for the ships was "attractive".
"The vessels are Japanese-built and very fuel-efficient, in line with our strategy of acquiring high-quality MRs that we can upgrade to Eco-mod," he said.
"The delivery of these vessels will expand our operating fleet and provide an immediate positive contribution to Ardmore's earnings."
The two ships will bring the company's fleet to 24 vessels, 14 in operation and10 set for delivery by the end of next year.
Ardmore's next two newbuildings are scheduled for delivery in November 2014.
The latest deal comes on the heels of the company's acquisition of a secondhand 2013-built 49,997 dwt eco-design tanker.
