ABB today announced that it will provide a bunker-saving power and propulsion package to Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection's new 298 passenger capacity "anti-cruise" vessel.

"The pioneering nature of the project is matched by ABB's solutions that will optimise energy efficiency and allow the vessel to be remotely monitored from shore," said ABB.

"Two Azipod D propulsors will enable the ship to maneuver efficiently and effectively whilst the Remote Diagnostics Service will empower a smarter approach to maintenance."

The Azipod units and elements included in the ABB medium voltage power plant are set to be installed with sensors to produce data that can be tracked from shore by both the customer and ABB's Ability Collaborative Operations Centers.

"Azipod propulsion is approximately 10 percent more fuel-efficient than shaft line systems, meaning significant reductions in both running costs and emissions," explained ABB.

"The hydrodynamics of the hull can be optimised because no rudders or other equipment associated with shaft line propulsion are required."

Meanwhile, ABB says the configuration of the vessel's power system will mean less wasted energy as the power management system connects or disconnects diesel generator sets to the network, depending on the vessel power requirement.

The ship is set to be built at H.J. Astilleros Barreras (HJB) in Spain and is scheduled for operation in 2019.
