ClassNK and USMRC Team Up on LNG Bunkering Training Tools
Japanese classification society CLassNK has announced a new agreement with the United States Maritime Resource Center (USMRC) to develop liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering simulation tools.
The project is part of an overarching agreement to work together on general "joint research and development activities for the maritime industry," but the groups' initial focus will be on LNG bunkering.
The need for qualified seafarers who are familiar with the latest maritime technology is essential for the sustainable development of the shipping industry," said ClassNK Executive Vice President Koichi Fujiwara.
"I am sure that this collaboration will greatly contribute to the future maritime education and training in the world."
The simulation tools are to be a part of USMRC's wider LNG bunkering training program, of which they were they first to offer in the U.S.
The two entities will also eventually collaborate on dynamic positioning and other training tools for the offshore energy sector.
ClassNK added that it has also agreed to support USMRC's maritime cybersecurity efforts.
Fellow classification society Bureau Veritas also released a LNG bunkering guide earlier this year.
