Electric-Propulsion Tri-Fuel LNG Carrier Delivered
Norwegian liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier company Awilco LNG has received the second of two tri-fuel diesel electric ships using GE Power Conversion electric propulsion motor technology, GE said.
The technology, which GE claims is one of the most environmentally friendly for sea-going vessels, supports Awilco LNG's efforts to boost its environmental and reliability credentials.
The vessels, Wilpride and Wilforce, were built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea.
The new ships bring Awilco LNG's fleet to five carriers, with the other two powered by steam.
Both ships feature two 12.5 MVA and two 6.2 MVA generators, switchboards, transformers, converters, 11.5-megawatt motors, and remote control from GE.
The technology requires less maintenance and has a long service life compared with alternative solutions, in addition to its environmental benefits.
DSME is also in the midst of building seven tri-fuel carriers using the GE technology for Maran Gas.
