MAN Diesel & Turbo and Japanese Engine Manufacturer Sign Eco-Engine Deal
German engine manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo Friday announced it is has entered a new cooperation agreement with Japanese manufacturer JFE to develop MAN's 32/44CR, 35/44DF, 48/60CR and 51/60DF four-stroke engine types.
According to the release, the agreement applies to marine newbuild projects for ships to be deployed on Japanese domestic trade routes, and where the shipyards and shipowners involved are located in Japan.
The release also noted that JFE already has a relationship with MAN; JFE has produced and supplied medium-speed diesel engines under the SEMT Pielstick license since 1996 - that license was acquired by the MAN Group back in 2006.
The engines can be provided with ECOMAP capability, MAN Diesel & Turbo noted, which it says allows the engine to be programmed to follow different power characteristics, ultimately allowing customers to realize a better fuel economy.
In November of 2015 Ship & Bunker reported that MAN Diesel & Turbo would acquire the marine fuel gas supply system business of Cryo AB.
