Sea Trials Completed on SOx Scrubber Water Treatment System
EnSolve Biosystems, Inc. (EnSolve) has announced that sea trials on its EnScrub SOx Scrubber Water Treatment System have been successfully completed onboard a vessel operating within the Baltic Region, MarineLink reports.
The system is said to have been installed onboard the vessel in April, 2016.
Jason Caplan, EnSolve's CEO, commenting on the outcome of the sea trials, said: "our scrubber client achieved DNV certification for their EGC System as well as the EnScrub system for this vessel."
Testing for the DNV GL certification, which was conducted in August, is said to have demonstrated that, during closed-loop operation, the EnScrub system legally discharged 97 percent of the SOx scrubber water entering the system, with the final 3 percent delivered to the decanter to be further dewatered.
"The incorporation of an EnScrub device into a SOx scrubber system provides our shipping customers a complete pollution abatement system that addresses regulated contaminants in the engine emissions as well as the scrubber water," said Caplan.
EnScrub models are noted to be available for closed-loop, open-loop, and hybrid scrubbers.
EnSolve is said to be in discussions with a number of scrubber companies related to the potential incorporation of EnScrub technology into those companies' scrubber product lines.
In June, the Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems Association (EGCSA) said the marine scrubber industry has "ample scrubber capacity for 2020" and is ready to help shipping comply with the 0.50 percent global sulfur cap for bunkers.
