Norwegian Company Orders Seagoing LNG Bunkering Vessel
Norway's Jahre Marine AS says it has ordered the first seagoing LNG carrier for bunkering and small scale distribution.
The vessel, which will have a cargo tank capacity of 6,200 cubic meters, will be built by Chinese shipyard Avic Dingheng.
"Avic Dingheng Shipyard has long experience and knowledge in building LNG, LPG and Ethylen carriers as well as product and chemical carriers," said shipyard spokesman Ni Zhimin.
The vessel uses non-pressurised IMO A tanks from Torgy LNG AS and a propulsion system designed by Rolls-Royce Marine AS that will pull LNG from a cargo tank to feed the engine.
Norway's NOx Fund and Innovation Norway's Environmental Technology Funding project provided financial support for the project, and Jahre Marine AS has signed a time charter contract for the ship.
Another Norwegian company, NLI Solutions (NLI), recently announced that it had developed a concept for an LNG bunker barge.
