Evergas Orders Four Dual Fuel, ECO-Design Liquid Ethane and Ethylene Carriers
Evergas Monday announced that it has signed an agreement with JHW Engineering & Contracting (JHW) for the construction of four ECO-design, dual fuel INEOS MAX 32,000M3 capacity liquefied ethane and ethylene carriers, including the option for two additional vessels.
The carriers are reported to offer dual fuel propulsion flexibility for liquid natural gas (LNG) and ethane, and will feature an optimised ECO hull design to "significantly reduce emissions."
Further, the vessels are said to be set to be compliant with clean ship notations, Green Passport, and Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) phase 3, among other indicators of efficiency and environmental-friendliness.
The newbuild vessels, which are expected for delivery beginning in the first quarter of 2018, will feature a "range of innovative features specifically tailored for safe, environmentally friendly and efficient operations," says Evergas.
The company also notes that by optimising the cargo tanks' design and ship layout, the cargo capacity of the vessels have been increased more than 10 percent in comparison to the latest 27,500M3 class gas carriers, without changing the main ship dimensions.
Evergas says the newbuild carriers will be equipped with ballast water treatment systems that "will protect the sea water environment."
The newbuilds are reported to be set to release Evergas' existing Dragon series of 27,500M3 LNG carriers.
"Till today, three of total eight 27,500M3 LNG carriers have been delivered to Evergas for bringing U.S. ethane from shale gas to INEOS’ manufacturing sites in Europe, with five vessels remaining," explained Evergas.
"With delivery of the INEOS MAX, the 27,500M3 LNG carriers will be available for trade on the growing mid-size LNG transportation market."
