Deltamarin Announces New Zero Emission Cruise Vessel
Deltamarin Oy (Deltamarin) says it has developed a new zero emission activity cruise vessel, which utlises four fully automatic wing sails, solar energy, and fuel cells as power sources.
The vessel is said to have been developed through an internal company contest focused on possible future vessel designs.
"The Zero Emission ship is a luxury cruise vessel that future customers can sail without harming the environment, as it is completely environmentally neutral and does not use any fossil fuels," said Deltamarin.
The vessel is noted to feature an energy-saving small waterplane area twin (SWAT) hull form, and is designed to operate at service speeds of 12 to 15 knots.
Deltamarin says the 540 passenger capacity vessel is designed with a 160 m overall length, 53 m breadth, and 8 m draught, although dimensions are scalable according to customer needs.
"Time will tell what the future holds but it is certain that today's ideas will materialise on future vessels one way or another," said Deltamarin, noting that it will continue to develop other concepts to boost shipping, including alternative energy sources, efficient operation, and cargo-loading solutions.
In June, DNV GL announced that it has signed a contract with Stena Line to provide classification on the ferry company's four newbuild Ro-Pax vessels, which have been called the "most fuel efficient ferries in the world."
