Fincantieri - Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. (Fincantieri) Tuesday said it held a steel cutting ceremony at its shipyard in Sestri Ponente, Genoa for Seabourn Ovation, which features optimised hydrodynamics for "significantly reduced" bunker consumption.

The cruise ship is the second of two such vessels currently being built for Seabourn Cruise Line, a Carnival Corporation & plc (Carnival) subsidiary.

Seabourn Ovation is said to be slated to join Seabourn’s fleet in the spring of 2018, and is part of a fleet expansion programme that Seabourn initiated in 2009.

Fincantieri says the vessel and its sister ship, Seabourn Encore, will be approximately 41,000 gross tonnes, with a capacity for 600 passengers and a cruising speed of 18.6 knots.

In May, Ship & Bunker reported that Swedish waste heat recovery systems manufacturer Climeon AB (Climeon) said Fincantieri had placed the first order for its Climeon Ocean system to be installed on newbuild cruise ships.
