Ocean Yield ASA (Ocean Yield) has announced the delivery of Gaschem Orca, a 36,000 cbm liquefied ethylene gas carrier that features multi-fuel capable propulsion.

The vessel, which was delivered from Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering, China (SOE), is the second of a two newbuild series to be delivered to the company.

As Ship & Bunker reported in May, MAN Diesel & Turbo SE (MAN) has announced that the world's first ME-Gas Injection Ethane (GIE) two-stroke engine had passed gas trials onboard Gaschem Orca's sister ship, the Gaschem Beluga.

The newest vessel is said to have now commenced a 15-year bareboat charter to the Hartmann Group, and is set to enter into a 10 year sub-charter to SABIC Petrochemicals B.V. (SABIC) upon arrival in Houston in July.

The vessel will be used for shipments of ethane from Houston to SABIC's cracker in Teeside, UK.

As Ship & Bunker has reported, while the ME-GIE engine is primarily designed for the combustion of ethane gas, MAN says research shows that it is also possible to operate the engine on other gas types.
