The International Maritime Organization's (IMO's) Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) project says it is holding a regional workshop on "Port State Control and Enforcement of MARPOL Annex VI" this week in Argentina.

The workshop is intended for Port State Control (PSC) Officers responsible for carrying out inspections under MARPOL related to air pollution from ocean-going ships.

The training will focus on the responsibilities of Parties to the Convention, and considers the PSC guidelines for MARPOL Annex VI.

Workshop attendees include participants from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Uruguay, and host country, Argentina.

The enforcement workshop comes on the heels of a national workshop on the "Implementation of IMO Model Course 4.05 on Energy Efficient Operation of Ships," which was held last week in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The two-day workshop covered various methods for improving energy efficiency of ships including optimised ship handling, fuel and energy management, and shipboard system planning.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, GloMEEP is a joint effort of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and IMO, aimed at encouraging the adoption of energy efficiency measures for shipping in developing countries.
