Offshore marine and engineering consultancy Aqualis Offshore, part of Oslo-based Aqualis ASA, has announced it has been contracted by South Korean company, Gas Entec Co. Ltd (Gas Entec) to provide an engineering study for a new-build liquified natural gas (LNG) bunkering barge that will operate offshore the United States (US).

Aqualis Offshore's is contracted to provide a Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) study for Control and Alarm Monitoring System (CAMS), Emergency Shutdown System (ESDS), and Wireless Telemetry System installed on the 2,200 cubic metre LNG bunkering barge.

The LNG bunkering barge is being built by Conrad Shipyard, Texas, U.S., for TOTE, but the design was done by South Korean firm Gas Entec.

"When we set up our Busan office last year, a key objective was to build up a presence that allowed us to support oil industry players that are based in South Korea but who operate internationally...Gas Entec falls into this category," says Phil Lenox, director – Asia Pacific, Aqualis Offshore.

"We believe we are a good match and are very pleased to be able to cooperate with them," said Lenox.

Aqualis Offshore's contract value is undisclosed.

TOTE has been a well documented champion of LNG bunkers.

In October last year Ship & Bunker reported the company had taken delivery of the world's first LNG powered containership.
