ExxonMobil Launches Marine Engine Oil for Upcoming EPA Requirements
ExxonMobil Corp has launched a new zinc-free marine engine oil that has been designed to maximise performance in new engines that comply with with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier IV regulations, reports MarineLink.
The Mobilgard 410 NC improves piston cleanliness by up to 20 percent and reduces liner wear by up to half, according to the company.
"As more Tier IV engines enter the marketplace, the versatility of Mobilgard 410 NC will be even more valuable," said Scott Murphy, Americas sales manager for ExxonMobil Marine Fuels & Lubricants.
"The new lubricant also delivers outstanding performance and component protection for a wide range of aftermarket treatment devices commonly used in Tier IV engines, including EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) or SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)."
The 410 NC is compatible with medium and high-speed marine diesel engines that are compliant with Tier IV requirements, which call for reduced nitrogen oxide (NOx) and diesel particulate matter (PM) emissions.
The fuel, which will begin production in 2014, is also reportedly compatible with alternative fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and biodiesel.
The fuel will replace the company's old Mobilgard 409 NC fuel at all U.S. and Canadian locations once Mobilgard 410 NC is available.
ExxonMobil also recently launched another fuel, the ExxonMobil Premium Heavy Distillate Marine ECA 50 (HDME 50), which will help companies to comply with Emission Control Area (ECA) regulations.
