Carnival Cruise Lines will return to the U.S. Port of Baltimore next year, the AP reports.

The cruise line said in June it would stop operating from both Baltimore and Norfolk, in part due to regulations on sulfur emissions in the North American Emissions Control Area (ECA), but it announced plans to return to the Virginia city earlier in January.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley announced Thursday that Carnival will resume seven-day, year-round cruises in March of 2015.

The Carnival Pride will return to Baltimore using scrubbers under a plan approved by U.S. regulators.

After receiving the regulatory approval, the company announced in September that it would spend $180 million on scrubbers for 32 ships.
