Singapore authorities have issued an alert after a product tanker went missing yesterday in the South China Sea, Sea Ship News reports.

The Information Fusion Centre (IFC), part of the Singapore Navy, have asked all vessels in the region to keep a look out for the Indonesia registered 1832 dwt vessel, Arsenal.

The ship's owners, Global Marine Transport, said they lost contact with Arsenal, along with an accompanying tug, Pawai, approximately 12 nautical miles off Malaysia.

In a separate incident, the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) has also reported the Malaysia-registered tug boat, Manyplus 12, and the towing barge, Hub 18, are also missing.

The pair failed to arrive as planned at Port Klang on June 13.

The news follows reports yesterday that Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian Navies had fended off a bunker pirate attack on a tanker off Malaysia Saturday night.

The spate of recent attacks in the region have led to some warn that piracy in Southeast Asia is on the rise.
