Pirates have stolen all the fuel cargo from a Malaysian tanker travelling through Indonesian waters, the International Chamber of Commerce Commercial Crime Services reports.

According to other reports, the Grolite Shipping-owned 6,509 DWT Dongfang Glory was travelling from Port Dickson to Labuan when 15-25 pirates armed with pistols boarded the ship.

The ship was carrying an estimated 4,000 tonnes of petrol and 1,000 tonnes of diesel at the time.

The assailants reportedly took crew hostage, damaged all communication and navigation equipment and stole crew personal belongings before transferring the fuel cargo to another vessel.

All 17 crew members were unharmed, while a Royal Malaysian Navy ship was sent to accompany the Dongfang Glory to Tanjung Po

Early this year, it was reported that Indonesia remains an area of intense activity for pirates, with 100 cases reported in 2014.
