Singapore Records Another Massive Month of Bunker Sales
Singapore has posted another massive month of bunker sales, the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) shows.
June's total for all products was 4,086,400 metric tonnes (mt), the sixth highest monthly total ever.
But telling of just how strong 2016's bunker sales have been, however, is that June's volume ranks as the second highest ever monthly total prior to 2016, and behind only the 4,287,800 mt sold in August 2015.
June's total is also a 15.6 percent year-on-year increase on the 3,536,000 mt sold last June, and puts the H1 2016 total at 24,384,100 mt.
This is the highest ever total for the first half of a year, and 13 percent higher than the six month period in 2015 - a year that ended with the highest ever annual sales of 45.1 million mt.
As usual, for June 2016 IFO380 was the port's most popular product with 2,981,600 mt of sales, or 73 percent of the total.
More notable was the 894,700 mt of 500 cSt sales, which represented 21.9 percent of the overall sales volume - the highest proportion ever for the port's second most popular product.
The 3,516 calls for bunkers during the month meant the average stem size was 1,162 mt - slightly above the six and 12 month average of 1,140 and 1,133 mt respectively.
For six of the last seven months now, Singapore, the world's biggest bunkering port, has recorded over 4 million mt of bunker sales - more than most other ports see during the course of an entire year.
Based on H1's performance, the question now doesn't seem to be whether 2016 will be a record year, but rather, by how much it will beat the previous record.
