UK bunker supplier Certas Energy says it has started supplying DMA grade marine gas oil (MGO) with less than 0.1 percent sulfur at Port Tyne.

The facility, which includes a new pipeline and fuel storage facilities, offers bunkers both ex-pipe for large ships and across the Northeast region by truck.

"We are continually developing our portfolio and this is the latest expansion in the North East," said Gary Byers, head of marine at Certas Energy.

"We have forged strong relationships with UK refineries to meet the pricing and quality demands of the shipping industry and our growing depot network will ensure customers can access our products across the UK."

The company says it is expanding across the UK and has depots at ports including the Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Orkney, Southampton, and Shetland Islands, as well as an ex-pipe facility at Aberdeen, barging on the Thames, a new IFO facility in Dundee, and a pipe-fed bunker facility in Oban.

The new Port Tyne facility will have no minimum or maximum fuel quantity and allow customers to pay in U.S. dollars, British pounds, or Euros.

From January 1, 2015, all vessels operating within Emissions Control Areas (ECA)s, including those covering the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, and the English Channel, will be required to use a marine fuel with a sulfur content not exceeding 0.10% by weight.

Certas Energy was previously known as GB Oils but changed its name last October, saying the new brand reflects its growth, and that it was limited in promoting itself under the old name because of trademark restrictions.
