The Monjasa Group (Monjasa) Thursday announced that Monjasa DMCC has been given the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) Award for Best Maritime Company 2016, with the company's growth and approach to quality and risk management cited as the main reasons Monjasa was recognised with the award.

DMCC, commenting on the award, noted that Monjasa DMCC, which was founded in 2006, has seen both its staff and fleet size grow year on year in Dubai, and is now operating across the Arabian Gulf and West Africa.

"Monjasa’s commitment to compliance and risk management makes the company part of an exclusive club of Bureau Veritas certified bunker suppliers," said the DMCC.

The Award for Best Maritime Company is one of a number of DMCC Members Awards given out to recognise top performance, innovation, and growth across 21 categories and among more than 12,000 companies based in the Free Zone of Dubai.

"I am truly honoured to receive this DMCC Award for Best Martime Company 2016 on behalf of Monjasa. In particular, since some of the world’s greatest maritime and shipping companies are also part of the DMCC," said Mikkel Jacobsen, Managing Director for Monjasa DMCC, who accepted the award on May 31.

"Two colleagues started up Monjasa DMCC exactly 10 years ago and since then, we have grown considerably in both size and financial strength. Today, we are an ISO and OHSAS certified company with 150 colleagues and operating 25 ships on a daily basis," added Jacobsen, concluding: "Monjasa will remain a long-term community partner in Dubai."

In May, Ship & Bunker reported that, despite what it described as very difficult shipping markets, Monjasa delivered a "robust" performance in 2015, which saw its total supply of oil products grow by 7 percent to 4.1 million metric tonnes (mt), compared to 3.9 million mt in 2014.
