Russian Far East Bunker Market Doubles, Hits 47% of National Sales
Russia's Far East region accounted for 47 percent of total Russian bunker sales volumes in 2014, up strongly from the prior year, Platts reports.
Bunker sales in the Russian Far East almost doubled in 2014, hitting 8.145 million tonnes out of a total for the country of 17.13 million tonnes.
In 2013, Far East sales accounted for 4.55 million tonnes out of a total 11.73 million tonnes.
According to the report, RN-Bunker held 33 percent of sales volumes in the Far East, with NNK-Bunker trailing in second place with 22 percent.
Gazpromneft Marine Bunker sold around 14 percent of the regions bunkers with smaller players Transbunker and Tranzit DV each accounting for 8 percent of sales and SK Pavino achieving 6 percent.
Bunker sales in the region's largest seaport, Nakhodka, hit 3.51 million tonnes in 2014, compared to 1.125 million tonnes the prior year, and outsold western ports such as St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk.
Nakhodka's closest rivals were Vostochny, which sold 2.1 million tonnes, and Vladivostok which saw sales of 1.065 million tonnes.
Bunker sales in the Baltic were around 3.5 million tonnes, where Gazpromneft Marine Bunker was the biggest supplier with a 15.5 percent market share.
In the Northwest, around 5 million tonnes of bunkers were sold with Gazpromneft Marine Bunker and Lukoil-Bunker dominating the market with 27.55 percent and 23.5 percent market share respectively.
Russia's bunker market makes up around 3 percent of global annual demand of between 200 million tonnes and 220 million tonnes.
Earlier this week, Primorsky Krai governor Sergey Nekhaev said implementation of free port status for Far East port Vladivostok would commence in 2016.
