Shell Opens Third Dutch LNG Station in Amsterdam
Royal Dutch Shell plc is opening its third liquefied natural gas (LNG) truck refuelling station in the Netherlands to serve growing demand from both trucks and ships, NGV Global reports.
Shell said that it will have access to import and storage capacity at the Port of Amsterdam's new LNG break bulk terminal beginning in October, which will then allow it to start supplying LNG.
According to separate reports the new station has a capacity of 70,000 litres of LNG.
"I am excited by the progress we have made, in a short time, developing a LNG refuelling network in the Netherlands with the opening of this new station," said Giorgio Delpiano, General-Manager for Shell's euroShell business.
The company reportedly already has stations in Rotterdam and Waalwijk.
The company said that the western port area in Amsterdam in particular has been seeing high ship traffic, leading to the decision to establish the new station there.
"We expect LNG will form a bigger part of the sustainable transport fuel mix in the future," said Lauran Wetemans, General Manager Downstream LNG at Shell.
"As customer demand grows, we plan to open additional LNG sites in the Netherlands."
Earlier this year, Ship & Bunker reported that Shell had also started a LNG bunker supply operation in the UK.
