Oman Oil Marketing Co (OOMCO) plans to begin a bunkering business at the Port of Duqm, Oman newspaper Muscat Daily reports.

The company will erect a large distribution terminal, allowing it to serve all ships arriving at the port, CEO Omar Ahmed Salim Qatan said.

"We do not leave an opportunity when it arises," he said.

Qatan said the company hopes to reach an agreement to acquire land in Duqm for the project next year but does not yet have a timeframe for the process.

OOMCO already has a bunkering licence at the Port of Sohar in partnership with Matrix Marine Holding GnBH and operates about 145 filling stations in Oman.

"In terms of expansion, we never stop, and there is always a plan," Qatan said.

"The growing Oman economy is helping us in a big way."

The Port of Duqm began commercial operations in March, and officials there said at the time that it was seeking an international operator to provide bunkering services.
