Canadian West Coast Port Eyes Bunkering
The Canadian west coast Port of Prince Rupert is looking into the possibility of developing a bunkering facility, local media reports.
"As the Port seeks to grow and diversify its cargoes, we have discussed the possibility of providing bunkering services for vessels," said Michael Gurney, manager of corporate communications at the port.
"The provision of this service would make Prince Rupert a more attractive shipping gateway — in fact, the absence of the capability is a significant disadvantage and remains a service gap impacting the efficiency of the gateway."
The port is said to have had numerous discussions over the past years with potential proponents in relation how bunkering could be introduced at the port.
Gurney notes that, whichever option is selected to provide the bunkering services at the port, the potential development will first require an environmental assessment.
