Tacoma LNG Bunker Plant Moves Closer to Construction Following Latest Approval
Puget Sound Energy's (PSE's) proposed Port of Tacoma liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant is moving closer to breaking ground after a Washington state commission Monday approved a financial agreement between the PSE and regulators, local media reports.
As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, PSE's proposed Port of Tacoma LNG plant will also support LNG bunkering, specifically for Totem Ocean Trailer Express (Totem Ocean).
In October, Ship & Bunker reported that a new multi-party settlement means that the State of Washington's utilities commission will not regulate the ship bunkering business at the proposed Tacoma facility.
H. Grant Ringel, a PSE spokesperson, says the company intends to break ground on the facility "in the near future."
While the project still requires approval of building permits for construction to begin, PSE is said to be aiming to open the plant by 2019.
In August, Commissioners of the ports of Tacoma and Seattle, through the Northwest Seaport Alliance, approved two easements for the project.
