Peru-based Tecnologica de Alimentos SA (TASA) will install fuel-saving devices across its fleet of 60 fishing trawlers after logging 9 percent in bunker savings during trials over the last year and a half, World Fishing and Aquaculture reports.

The devices, which are constructed by Broquet International Ltd, will be installed on both auxiliary and main engines, and will add to the existing 93 devices already installed on main engines during trials.

In total, 153 units will be installed aboard TASA's trawlers.

As a result of the trials, TASA said that it had also installed over 60 of Broquet’s fuel catalyst units on generators and pumps in use by the company.

The company said that the upgrades had also reduced maintenance costs along with helping TASA to meet environmental objectives in reducing carbon dioxide reduction.

TASA owns one of the largest fishing fleets in South America

Last year, it was reported that a consortium was also working on the possibility of using liquid natural gas (LNG) as fuel aboard trawlers.
