Singapore Bunkering Firm Lands in Court on Fraud Charges

Bunkering firm Vermont UM Bunkering was in court in Singapore yesterday on fraud charges, local news provider the Straits Times reports.

It is alleged by the authorities that over $8 million was dishonestly taken from customers of the company.through false accounting.

In addition to the firm, two of its directors and a former bunker manager are facing fraud charges.

A manager of the company, Tang Ke, appeared in court representing the company to contest the charges, the report said.

The case involving the company and one of its directors was adjourned to next week. The case against two other named individuals was put back to next month.

Vermont UM Bunkering had its operating licence withdrawn by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singaore last year.
