Royal Caribbean Signs Multi-Million Dollar Marketing Deal to Promote Singapore Cruise Industry
Royal Caribbean International has signed a multi-million dollar marketing deal with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Changi Airport Group (CAG) to promote cruise ship industry in Singapore, the companies said in an emailed statement.
The alliance, which will run between 2015 and 2018, is reportedly expected to generate over $100 million in tourism receipts in addition to direct spending from from the cruise industry, which was reported to have totalled the more than $500 million in 2013.
The companies expect that more than 170,000 overseas visitors to Singapore will take a voyage on a Royal Caribbean cruise as a result, which would equate a growth of 50 percent.
“Having deployed ships here regularly for the last seven years, Royal Caribbean now looks forward to its next phase of significant growth in Singapore," said Sean Treacy, managing director of the company's Singapore and Southeast Asia operations.
"Our three-year deployment plan is our strongest commitment ever to this market and we see great potential in Singapore as a source market and regional cruise hub.”
The company said that it would also increase its number of sailings from Singapore to more than 40 a year to coincide with the marketing campaign that will run in the Asia-Pacific region, Australia, Europe, and North America.
Earlier this year, the company reported that higher bunker costs and a stronger U.S. dollar had affected first quarter profits, though it still announced stronger than expected results.
