Malaysian Authorities Detain Three Ships for Illegal Fuel Transfer
Malaysian authorities have detained three ships for alleged illegal transfer of oil, the Malaysia Star reports.
Captain Aminuddin Abdul Rashid, enforcement chief for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), said the Indonesia-registered MV Tanto Bersatu was simultaneously receiving 11,000 liters of lube oil from one vessel, Indonesia-registered MV Dijaya 8, and 380,000 liters of fuel oil from Singapore-registered MT Sentek 21.
"None of the ships had permission to transfer oil and they had also failed to inform the authorities of their presence in Malaysian waters," Aminuddin said.
The ships were detained less than two nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Piai on Thursday afternoon.
The 36 crew members of the ships were brought to MMEA headquarters for further investigation, Aminuddin said.
The Tanto Bersatu is a 1,304 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) ship owned by Tanto Intim Line of Indonesia, according to ship data site Containership-Info, while Sentek 21 is part of Singapore's Sentek Marine & Trading Pte Ltd., according to ShipSpotting.
