Bunker Tanker Collides with Cargo Ship in Tokyo Bay
A bunker tanker has been involved in a collision with a cargo ship in Tokyo Bay off Japan's port of Kawasaki, according to a release published Saturday by Maritime Herald.
It is reported that, during the collision, the cargo ship's bow struck the bunker tanker's portside.
While both vessels are reported to have sustained damages and breaches, both are noted to have remained seaworthy and traveling to the port of Kawasaki by their own power for inspection and repairs.
Police are said to be investigating the cause of the incident, with preliminary findings reported to suggest the cargo vessel violated COLREG rules, having failed to maneuver appropriately.
No injuries or pollution have been reported as a result of the collision.
The names of the vessels involved in the collision were not been disclosed.
In August, reports of an oil spill were received following a collision between two tankers about two nautical miles off Japan's coast.
