Bunker Spill in the Philippines
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Monday about 300 liters of bunker fuel was reported to have leaked from a submarine pipe during bunkering at about 5:30 pm Saturday September 29, 2012 near the Petron Depot Jetty in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City, Philippines.
According to the report, the duty watchman noticed some oil sheen in the vicinity of the M/T Emilio Jacinto and bunkering was immediately stopped.
Coast Guard Station Bacolod and Petron personnel proceeded to the area at 6pm, in co-ordination with the Marine Environmental Protection Unit, and deployed booms to contain the spilled oil.
With the use of oil spill response equipment, the ship's crew with the assistance of PCG personnel conducted recovery operations, PCG said.
Recovery of spilled bunker fuel oil continued Sunday by scooping and using absorbent pads, resulting in the recovery of approximately four drums of oily mixture.
Today's statement said Petron and Coast Guard Station Bacolod would conduct an inspection of surrounding areas to check for the further presence of oil.
