The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shell Eastern Trading (PTE) LTD (Shell) to cooperate in research and development, and test-bedding of projects to advance clean maritime fuel technologies, automation, and digitalisation.

Specifically, under the agreement, the two parties will work together to develop innovative solutions to reduce emissions in the port, investigate greater use of automation in the port, and support research and development on digitalisation.

"Singapore will continue to invest in future capabilities to build up a strong maritime cluster to generate good employment opportunities and stay ahead of the competition," said Andrew Tan, CEO of MPA.

"We are pleased to work with industry partners like Shell to drive the digital transformation of the maritime industry in Singapore in the areas of electronic data interchange, automation, intelligent systems and cleaner energy."

The MoU was signed at the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) Forum 2017 by Tan on behalf of MPA and Nick Potter, General Manager of Shipping & Maritime, Asia Pacific Middle East at Shell Trading.
