Ethical bunkering, the impact of mass flow meters on the Singapore market and 2020 compliance are among the topics lined up for debate at the International Bunker Industry Association annual convention next month.

Md Elfian Harun, assistant director of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore's bunker services department, Aaron Powell, manager ethics and integrity at Rio Tinto Marine and Carlos Torres, global head of BP Marine Fuels are speakers at the event, which takes place in Singapore on November 8 and 9.

"The bunker industry is undergoing a period of dramatic and unprecedented change which affects us all," IBIA said.

"It finds itself at a crossroads faced with some important choices to make. The global sulphur cap, compliance, fuel options, technology and counterparty risk will all be examined [by the conference]. One topic will stand out above all: Ethics."

IBIA CEO Justin Murphy has defined ethics as "doing the right thing regardless of whether or not there's a legal obligation to do so". IBIA would like to see the converstion take hold in the bunker industry.
