A Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) very large crude carrier (VLCC) has been arrested in Singapore, but authorities have not disclosed the reason, Platts reports.

The Desh Vaibhav, a 316,409 deadweight tonne (dwt) vessel built in 2005, was arrested by a solicitor, Incisive Law LLC, late Thursday.

SCI's director for bulk carriers and tankers, Captain Sunil Thapar, said only that the arrest was related to "some dispute which is being sorted out."

The ship had been provisionally chartered by Indian refiner Reliance and was on its way to the Persian Gulf to begin a voyage to Jamnagar, India.

With VLCC freight rates around $7,000 per day, the Desh Vaibhav was the second of the ships arrested in recent days.

Gulf Sheba, which is owned by Dubai-based Gulf Navigation Holding, was detained in Rotterdam over debt to Norwegian bank DNB, Seatrade Global reported.
