UAE Delegation Meets Greek Maritime Minister to Discuss Stronger Ties
UAE shipyard operator Drydocks World Tuesday announced that Greece's Minister for the Economy, Maritime Transport, Tourism, and Infrastructure received a delegation of UAE government and shipping figures to discuss closer maritime ties between the nations.
George Stathakis met the delegation including Drydocks World Chairman Khamis Juma Buamim, OPEC UAE Governor Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, and Rashid Al Habsi, CEO of Emirati classification society Tasneef, at his office in Athens.
The delegation is understood to have discussed ways to strengthen and develop relations in various fields in order to promote business and investment in the marine industry, maritime transport, oil, and logistics.
"We appreciate the pioneering position played by Greek maritime companies and ship owners and are extremely keen to build strong and excellent relations with our partners in Greece," said Buamim.
The Greek fleet is said to be the largest in the world with commercial shipping vessels numbering over 4,530, including 2,215 general cargo and bulk carriers and more than 1,400 tankers for transporting petroleum products and chemicals.
Last year, UAE's neighbour, Qatar, was said to be courting Greece as a potential market for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkers.
