Integr8 Calls for 'Strict Alignment' With ISO 22192 for ARA MFM Mandate
Global marine fuels firm Integr8 Fuels has welcomed the news of the mass flow meter mandate at Rotterdam and Antwerp-Bruges from January 2026, but argued a robust regulatory environment will be needed to make the technology effective.
The two Northwest European ports have set out plans this month to make MFMs mandatory for all bunker barges over 300 GT in size from the start of 2026.
""he announcement is great news, but we must also commit to a transparent model strictly aligned to ISO 22192, with the ability to appropriately enforce and sanction," Chris Turner, bunker quality and claims manager at Integr8, said in an emailed statement on Tuesday.
"Without this, even with Mass Flow Meters being mandatory in these ports, endemic mistrust will remain, and the opaque nature of supply will persist in the eyes of many."
Singapore started to make MFMs mandatory in 2017, and has seen a significant reduction in bunker quantity disputes since then.
"Integr8 data shows that in the last 180 days there were significantly fewer quantity claims in Singapore than the global average (0.9% of Singapore volume vs 1.6% globally)," Integr8 said in the statement.
