Belgium-based Fluxys saw a 73% increase in demand for bio-LNG loadings at the Zeebrugge Terminal, reaching over 2.5 TWh.

The increase was driven mainly by the heavy road transport and shipping sectors, as both continue efforts to cut emissions, Fluxys said in its annual report for 2025, published on Tuesday.

Bio-LNG accounted for nearly 40% of small-scale shiploads and close to 70% of LNG truck loading volumes, which largely supply filling stations for road transport.

The growth follows a sharp rise in 2024, when volumes increased ninefold year-on-year, indicating continued momentum in demand.

Bio-LNG is a lower-carbon alternative to conventional LNG and can be used as a drop-in fuel in existing dual-fuel ships.
