Rotterdam's Gate Terminal, a joint venture of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie (Gasunie) and Royal Vopak N.V. (Vopak), today announced that it began commercial operations of its two new truck loading bays on Monday, which will in part support liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering.

"These two truck loading bays are highly automated and combine best practices for safe operations with an excellent service level," said Gate Terminal.

Gate Terminal says the new loading bays come in response to a 50 percent year-on-year increase of truck loadings, with approximately 750 trucks loaded in the first half of 2017.

"By adding two new truck loading bays to the existing bay Gate terminal is prepared to efficiently cater for future growth in the demand for LNG distribution via road or containers," said Gate Terminal.

"This will support the effort of Gate terminal customers to deliver LNG to retail stations, industry and ships."

Last year, Ship & Bunker reported that the Port of Rotterdam, through a collaborative effort with Gasunie and Vopak, had completed the expansion of the LNG Gate terminal at the Maasvlakte to include a third berth for the loading of small LNG vessels, including LNG bunkering vessels.
