LUKOIL Expects Growth in Northern Sea Route Bunkering
St. Petersburg based bunker supplier LLC LUKOIL-Bunker has said in a press release today it expects growth in the volume of bunker fuel sales to vessels sailing on the Northern Sea Route (NSR).
"Since the number of ships following the route has been increasing, the volume of bunker fuel sales is expected to grow," the company said.
LUKOIL-Bunker's NSR bunkering operations are accomplished from its Murmansk branch.
According to a report by Barents Observer, more than 1.5 million tons of goods will be shipped along the Northern Sea Route this year.
Ship & Bunker reported last month that Nordic Bulk Carriers A/S (Nordic) is planning to transport six to eight 70,000 metric tonne (mt) shipments of iron ore to China using the Northern Sea Route this year.
Compared with going via the Suez Canal, the NSR will save Nordic up to $5.2 million according to Nordic's Managing Director Christian Bonfils.
Lukoil-Bunker said in September 2011 it supplied fuel to the M/V Sanko Odyssey, the largest dry cargo ship that has ever sailed along the Northern Sea Route.
