No Spill Reported After Aegean Sea Collision [Video]

Two bulk carries, Katherine and Baru Satu, on July 3 collided in the Aegean Sea and remain locked together, Maritime Bulletin reports.

As yet there have been no reports of a bunker spill as a result of the incident, which happened about eight nautical miles south-west of Gavrio, Andros Island.

Damage to Katherine resulted in water ingress through a a hole portside, while Baru Satu suffered bow damage, also resulting in water ingress.

The two vessels remained locked together, which was speculated to be in order to keep Katherine afloat.

Malta flagged Katherine was said to have been en route from Novorossiysk, Russia, to Italy, with cargo of steel, while Panama flagged Baru Satu was en route from Brazil to Bulgaria, Black sea, with a cargo of sugar.

There were no reports of any injuries to the crew, but nine of the 23 crew members of Katherine were said to have been taken to Karystos on a port police float boat for safety reasons.
