The Port of Amsterdam has announced that "recalibrated" the pricing of shore power services at the port, which are used by both inland navigation and river cruises.

"Port of Amsterdam has made significant investments in the shore power facilities for river cruises and inland navigation in the past few years. Port of Amsterdam supplies shore power in the Amsterdam port region, and only passes on the actual costs to users," stated the port.

Shore power costs are noted to consist of two components, including electricity costs, as well as shore power facility costs.

As of January 1, 2017, the port says the cost per KWh for river cruises will remain equal to the current tariff of €0.35 per KWh ($0.37 per KWh) with no price indexation being applied, while the inland navigation shore power tariff will be set at € 0.27 per KWh ($0.28 per KWh) for 2017.

"Port of Amsterdam believes that the facilities it offers can always be further improved: faster, smarter and cleaner. Faster, by investing in processes and services. Smarter, by embracing innovation. And cleaner, by being a large port with a small environmental footprint," said the port.

"Shore power contributes to a cleaner, greener port and the Port is seeking to expand this facility substantially."

The port says it will review required physical modifications of the shore power infrastructure in 2017 in relation to a possible expansion of the generator ban in the Port of Amsterdam, noting that such modifications must be implemented before a generator ban can be expanded.

"The generator ban will in any case continue to apply in the areas in which it is currently applicable," adds the port.
