Dan-Bunkering Brokerage Could Go Global
Dan-Bunkering says its new brokering business will operate as a trial and could see global expansion in the future, CEO Henrik Zederkof told Danish industry news site ShippingWatch.
"We've been familiar with this business for many years, but now we're getting to the point where we have enough large clients asking specifically for this kind of business, and we don't want to lose these clients due to the fact that we only work as traders," he said.
Zederkof said the demand for the brokering service so far is coming from large clients, mostly operating in the European time zone, but the company wants to see if it will bring in others as well.
"Of course we expect to be able to attract new customers of the sort who are interested in this service," he said.
"Even though this will be a niche function in Dan-Bunkering, we'll see if this business can grow into something bigger in the future."
After opening a Houston office last year, Dan-Bunkering now has a presence in Europe, Asia, and America.
Zederkof said the company will try the brokerage unit, which currently consists of four staff members, and then evaluate the results before deciding how to proceed.
"After that, we'll have to see if there are other customers in other time zones who might be interested in this concept once it becomes a little more known," he said.
"We're certainly not opposed to establishing similar offers in other time zones."
Unlike Dan-Bunkering's main trading business, the brokerage unit simply connects buyers and sellers without putting the company's own money on the line.
"The biggest investment is really just the know-how that we bring and which we've established through our core business," Zederkof said.
"It's a fairly easy transition that actually just increases the variety of what we offer."
Dan-Bunkering announced plans for the brokerage, to be housed at its main office in Middelfart, Denmark, earlier this week.
