Danish Shipping, in collaboration with the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and the Danish Maritime Authority, is set to host a "Workshop on Bunker Oil - Things to Consider Before 2020," to help shipowners prepare for the coming global 0.50 percent cap on sulfur in marine fuel.

The event, which is scheduled for November 9, will cover topics including legal requirements, how to handle the oil onboard, refinery processes, and how refineries and oil majors are preparing for the impact of 2020's 0.50 percent sulfur cap.

Further, the workshop will examine bunker supplier expectations, scrubber market status, and what to be aware of ahead of scrubber installations.

"This is a 'must attend meeting' as we are preparing for a significant change in the fuel market in 2020. I expect that all members will be affected by the 2020 cap no matter whether they are deep sea or short sea operators," said Maria Skipper, Director at Danish Shipping.

"The workshop is relevant for a wide range of employees in the shipping companies whether they work with technical issues, new building projects, bunker purchase, operation, chartering, commercial strategies etc., so we hope to see a large number of participants engaged in fruitful discussions."

Earlier this month, Sara Ropke of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said the organisation is doing a good job on monitoring shipping in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea area for compliance with sulfur emission regulations.
