New DHL Service Offers Efficient Tonnage Option to Customers
Deutsche Post DHL Group Wednesday announced that DHL Global Forwarding (DHL) will now offer a Green Danmar service through Danmar Lines, DHL's Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC), allowing customers to choose a carrier for full container shipping that is over 5 percent more carbon efficient than industry average.
"We see more and more customers expressing an interest in minimising the carbon footprint of their shipments," said Dominique von Orelli, Senior Vice President, FCL Product and Capacity Management for DHL.
"With Green Danmar, we are the first freight forwarding company to offer customers a green service for their ocean freight shipments that can be tailored according to their supply chain needs."
The Green Danmar service is said to combine with DHL's offsetting solution, enabling the customer to ensure they are transporting a CO2 free shipment.
"Environmentally conscious customers now have the option to further improve ocean freight carbon efficiency, and thus come one step closer to achieving their CO2 reduction goals," stated DHL, noting that the Green Danmar service can be selected by customers using its DHL Ocean Direct FCL (Full Container Load) product.
DHL explains that the service is provided through "a strict vendor management process," which identifies carriers who have a carbon efficiency of at least 5 percent above the industry's average, from which Danmar Lines selects that carrier that best matches the customer's operational needs at the most effective cost.
In April, Drewry Supply Chain Advisors published a brief that showed containership CO2 emissions on Asia-North Europe round-voyages have dropped by 35 percent over a five-year period to 2013.
