Incat Crowther PTY Ltd. (Incat Crowther) has announced the launch of a new passenger ferry Isle of la Digue, which the company says has demonstrated a 6 percent fuel savings in sea trials.

Designed by Incat Crowther for Seychelles-based Inter Island Express and built by Richardson Devine Marine, the vessel features a new generation propeller tunnel that is said to "significantly" reduce propeller draft while offering a flat transom.

"During sea trials, the Isle of La Digue demonstrated a six percent fuel saving over the standard hull. The vessel achieved speed of 32 knots at maximum deadweight, and a very low fuel burn at its operational cruising speed of 28 knots," explained Incat Crowther.

In May, Incat Crowther called the first of NYC Ferry's new ferries, Lunch Box, "one of the cleanest operating in American waters."
