Incat Crowther PTY Ltd. (Incat Crowther) today announced that the first of NYC Ferry's new ferries has been christened Lunch Box - a vessel that Incat Crowther says is "one of the cleanest operating in American waters."

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, the vessel design features low wash, high fuel efficiency, and low emissions.

Lunch Box is powered by two EPA Tier 3 certified Baudouin 6M26.3 main engines.

Currently, the highest standard is EPA Tier 4/IMO Tier III and designated to engines that also include Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) technology.

The vessel is the first in a series of 26m catamaran ferries commissioned by Hornblower Cruises to form NYC Ferries, a government initiative to bring an affordable, city-wide ferry network to New York City.

"The aggressive delivery schedule required by the network is being met by two shipyards, Horizon Shipbuilding and Metal Shark," explained Incat Crowther.

"Incat Crowther is working closely with the two shipyards, having developed a design that is efficient to produce in the volumes required and in the timeframe they are required. New systems and communication methods were developed to allow designer and yards to share information and work collaboratively."

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, the new ferry is part of New York City's plan to create a network of ferries to serve the entire city by the end of 2018.
